In our society, pursuing dental treatments for cosmetic purposes is growing ever more popular as time goes on. There are many different forms of treatment that people look into for this reason, including teeth straightening methods, teeth whitening treatments and tooth replacement. Therefore if you are looking to neaten up your smile, you may be looking for a Pinner dentist who offers veneers as an option. To determine whether you are eligible for veneers, you must book in with a dentist for an examination and discuss your options.
So, what are veneers?
Veneers can be made of porcelain or composite materials, and they are created to cover the front of a tooth or teeth to help improve the look of a smile. Veneers can be bonded to the enamel of the tooth or teeth, and depending on the sort of veneers chosen, this can be achieved in one of two ways. Either your teeth will need very little to no preparation, or more preparation will be required - though this would only be on the enamel of the tooth.
There are several factors that can be addressed through the use of veneers. Where other options for teeth whitening have been exhausted, they can be used to mask darker natural teeth. The appearance (and sometimes function) of the shape and length of a tooth can also be changed by using veneers. In cases where other forms of treatment are not possible, our Pinner dentist may suggest veneers to widen narrow smiles or close gaps between teeth. Where teeth are worn or partially broken down, veneers can be used to restore them.
What can be expected from the process?
At Apple Dental Studio, to begin with, you can speak to our treatment coordinator, who would be delighted to talk with you informally about your case and treatment options. This service gives patients the chance to discuss the various available treatment options and all possible solutions and options that may be available to them. It also allows them to receive some clarity about what can be done to address their needs in an environment that requires no commitment, helping to ease any pressure that may be felt.
Following this, our Pinner dentist would invite you for a thorough examination. Photographs, impressions and radiographs may be taken for a diagnostic wax-up, and our qualified practitioner will assess your suitability for veneers. During this appointment, a comprehensive treatment plan can be created. If more than one veneer is needed, a follow-up appointment may be scheduled after time has been taken to examine the images of your mouth and teeth.
Using the materials from the wax-up, we can make a temporary smile to allow you to get the feel of your new teeth and determine whether you are happy with the aesthetics. If required, small adjustments can be made to this when patients have had time to decide how they feel about the look. When you are happy with this, we can create the final veneers using the same colour, shape and size that you have settled on.
When preparing the teeth, generally under local anaesthesia, the enamel is trimmed to make space for the veneer. After this we would take a new impression to help ensure that the veneers fit properly to the prepared teeth. A temporary veneer can be provided by our dentist whilst you wait for the final one to be made. This final product will be bonded onto the tooth, after cleaning, during a fitting appointment scheduled for when the veneers are received. A mouthguard for night times may be provided to help protect the veneers.
